OHT Gives to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center

Operation Hat Trick is pleased to announce that it has recently donated $1,500 to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s wounded. The donation will go specifically to those who are recovering from devastating injuries including amputation, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Operation Hat Trick is a non-profit organization that generates awareness, support and funding for the recovery of America’s wounded warriors both active service members and veterans. OHT pursues these goals through the sale of OHT branded merchandise, proceeds of which are distributed to selected organizations that provide direct services to our wounded warriors. “OHT is a young, new but growing organization and we are thrilled to be able to add Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as one of the organizations to which we give”, said Dot Sheehan, President of OHT.

According to Sheehan, “A group of OHT supporters has made four trips to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and July 30 will be our 5th. We have seen firsthand the extensive injuries these young men and women have suffered. We have watched them work courageously and positively in the MATC work out room – up to 60 amputees – following a physical training regimen that will help them recover as much functions as possible. And we have visited head wounded patients who are trying valiantly to recover as well.”

“On each visit wounded patients receive OHT hats from their favorite university, and these hats help to cover burns, wounds, swelling, scars and bandages making them feel ‘almost normal’ one patient admitted.”

“We’ve talked to patients and have gotten an idea of their needs and OHT is committed to helping.” says Sheehan. “These needs can range anywhere from additional counseling, to care packages, to specialized care and equipment.”

Currently 215 schools have adopted OHT along with 60 MiLB teams and 7 AHL/ECHL hockey teams. Lids is testing in 40 markets and Barnes & Noble and Follett are carrying hats in 75 schools each. 47 Brand is the exclusive headwear provider of OHT. A portion of each hat sale goes to OHT.
